Perception by NF and Tommee Profit

NF “Nathan Feuerstein” is a Christian rapper form Michigan.  He’s made clear in interviews that he doesn’t want to be classified as a Christian rapper, be cause his music is for everybody.  I think he tends to get pigeonholed in this way because of his subject matter, he does not swear, nor talk about how much money or women he has.  He focuses on topics that are deeply personal to him, like his relationships with his parents, his feelings about himself as a person and the hardships he’s been through.

Perception is NFs third official album, and I think it is the most important in his development as an artist

Like I mentioned before, NFs music tends to be dark and somewhat depressing for some people, and he’s conflicted at this point in his career because he feels like he can’t live that way anymore.

He certainly doesn’t turn on a dime, and While the sound as feel of this album is still consistent with his other projects it has a more positive lean.  Instead of just talking about negative things in his like and just leaving them to lie there, NF plays a more active role in taking these things and making big steps toward beating his depression and leaving it in the past.  That’s hard and gritty work, so the dark sound of the album’s production works together really well.

Many rappers in the past have been remembered by how well they adapted to changing cultures and circumstances, and NF shows the ability to do that, because his music is always a reflection of himself as a person, and people change.
